Two weeks down and crew call

Whew. I finally make time to write this. I was meaning to write this earlier in the week, but just didn't make the time. I actually wrote a bit of it, but my computer crashed before I was able to finish.

First things first. I wanted to ask everyone who reads this for some help. If you remember the last post I mentioned that I'm going to be making a short film for my Film Production course at school. I have a few ideas for what I could possibly make it about, but I'm asking for suggestions from everywhere. I don't care if it's a vague idea or if it's something that you've heavily developed. If you think it's an interesting story that can be told in no more than three minutes, please share. I'm not trying to be a biter and steal your ideas, it's just that I'm running short on inspiration and creativity right now. If I pick your idea, I'll give you full credit in the film and if by some chance I was to ever take the film to a film festival or make any sort of profit from it, I would give you your share of the winnings.

On the same subject, if there's anybody in the Phoenix area that is interested in helping during the production by being a part of the crew or even by being an actor in the film, feel free to ask. Of course it's a volunteer position, but we'll probably feed you. I won't even start to say it's going to be fun, because that's what most people think when they think of a film set. But on set is where you'll put in the most work and put up with the most stress you've ever come across. But we could use the help. It's not just on my film either. I'll be working on three other people's films and they'll need all the help they can get too. Hell, if you want to be a "patron of the arts", we'll accept donations too, hehe.

Okay, enough of that. I've gone through two weeks of school already, and I think I'm getting back in the swing of things. With the exception of today when I woke up with a horrible migraine headache, I haven't missed a single class. By this time last year, I was skipping class to go play pool or have lunch with a friend, or some other similar time wasting activity. But this semester I'm dedicated to continued excellence. Except for one English class when I forgot to do the reading, I have actively participated in every class I've attended in these two weeks, another thing I have been known to actively avoid. If all goes according to plan, I'll be the suck up know-it-all beaner that sits in the front of the class because he's deaf in one ear. My only problem with school so far has been how ridiculously hot it's been here lately. According to the National Weather Service (yes, I looked it up), the last two days have had high temperatures of 111 and 113 degrees. That's way to fucking hot to be walking around from class to class or to be waiting for the local shuttle to take me back to the parking lots.

Oooh! Speaking of parking lots... The other day the bus was packed when we were leaving school, so my friend and current supplier of transportation to and from school (thanks a bunch Javier) tossed me his car keys as I hopped on the bus so that I could just come back and pick him up at the bus stop. It caught me a bit off guard, and it wasn't till halfway through the bus ride that I realized I was about to drive his car. It's a late '90s Mercedes-Benz. I forget the model, but that's not the point. I never thought I'd get behind that wheel, let alone with the keys in my hand. That car handles beautifully. It barely felt like I was driving a car. I hate to sound so amazed at something so dumb and trivial, but with my humble upbringing, that's the most luxurious vehicle I've had the pleasure of driving.

Well, it's getting late. I'll leave this here for now. I have a few things to do tomorrow. Granted they go according to plan, I'll probably be posting again over the weekend to talk about it.

Thanks again for reading.

Emilio,

Here's a vague short film idea:

Crowded public shopping area, as the camera moves through the crowd, we see and hear all the people walking in various directions are talking on their cell phones. We hear what they say as they pass in camera view. As we move through them, we begin to hear connections between their separate statements. Moving in and around people, going in and out of shops, we begin to realize that we are hearing various aspects of one story, differing points of view, conflicting accounts adding up to one story which is completed without any of the people ever talking to each other.

What is the story? Well, it could be almost anything, I don't have that, now, just this way of telling it -- but if you're interested, I could help develop it with you.
